Giant BatPosted by Jeremie (Brooklyn, New York, United States) on 26 July 2008 in Animal & Insect. A specimen of fruitbat flying over Victoria Park, in the centre of Colombo. This specy of bat, that can be up to 1.5 metre wide, is very common on the Indian sub-continent and in Sri Lanka. Around 2,000 individuals would be residing in Victoria Park alone. Contrarily to its smaller cousins, the fruitbat only eat fruits (and is harmless to human, good news!) and is active during the day. As I am moving in a new apartment this week end, I will have no access to Internet for few days and will therefore not be able to reply to your comments. However, photographs will still be posted everydays. I will try to catch up with you once I am back on the World Wide Web. See you soon!
