Green Pit ViperPosted by Jeremie (Brooklyn, New York, United States) on 13 May 2009 in Animal & Insect. We continue our little tour of Sri Lankan reptiles with a specimen of green pit viper, an endangered snake endemic to Sri Lanka (so says the story...), captured in Sinharaja Forest. For the anecdote, we were walking on a small path in this dense forest when we saw this viper hung to a branch some 1 to 2 metres deep inside the bush. In order to have a good shot of it, I had to get inside the bushes and go around the snake with my tripod (too dark to shoot by hands), with my guide beating the bush around my feet, to get close enough for a decent picture. I eventually got it, although I would have preferred a tighter frame on the head of the reptile, which would have required getting some 50 centimetres from the viper... I like taking pics, but not so much when my life is at stake !! As I am moving in a new apartment this week end, I will have no access to Internet for few days and will therefore not be able to reply to your comments. However, photographs will still be posted everydays. I will try to catch up with you once I am back on the World Wide Web. See you soon!
